The Connect-Tek (sometimes mispelled as Connect Tek or ConnectTek) is a revolutionary device designed by Jim McGrath that debuted in Team Turbo. It was based on Steel's alien technology, being capable of creating anything that a person could think of, such as weapons, armors, temples and many others.

History[]

Past[]

The Connect-Tek was designed by Jim McGrath back when he worked at N-Tek as a scientist. It was based on Steel's Makinian technology. Sixteen years later, after the Ultralink invasion ended, the Connect-Tek was stored in the Ice Box, a facility where Makinian technology was stored in low temperature. It was located on its own chamber.

Prior to the events of Team Turbo, a scientist known as Mortum heard tales about the Connect-Tek and its capabilities. With the intent of turning himself into a god-like being, he began his search for the device.

Animated Films[]

Team Turbo[]

After Mortum took down N-Tek's Daedelus Platform, he formed an alliance with Max's villains to search for the Connect-Tek, offering them the locations of various N-Tek bases spread throughout Copper Canyon. Meanwhile, Maxwell McGrath, Steel, Rayne Martinez and C.Y.T.R.O. went to the Ice Box to get the Connect-Tek. Alex followed them thanks to a piece of Max's Connect-Tek Sword. Upon detecting activity on the Ice Box, Mortum sent out the Elementors to investigate the place. Ultimately, the group are cornered by the villains, and Max decides to use the Connect-Tek to build armors for Alex, Rayne and C.Y.T.R.O. to fight off the Elementors. However, due to their inexperience, they are quickly defeated, allowing the Elementors to get the Connect-Tek.

Toxzon approaches the Elementors and reveals that Mortum had sent him in case they thought of double-crossing him. The villain manages to get the Connect-Tek and escapes with the device. Maxwell alone decides to go after him, and ultimately manages to obtain the Connect-Tek. Eventually, Extroyer, Toxzon and the Elementors unite forces to take down Max and his newly founded Team Turbo. After their defeat, Mortum appears as an hologram and uses his Transdimensional Energy to teleport the Connect-Tek to his hideout. Luckily, Max had sneaked a piece of the Connect-Tek sword on the compartment of the device, allowing them to track down Mortum. The villain ultimately manages to escape, but before doing so, the Connect-Tek is damaged during his brief fight against Max. Mortum teleports to a deserted place where his assistants were waiting for him. One of them points out that the Connect-Tek was damaged, angering him. The device begins to overload and ultimately explodes, killing him.

Team Turbo Fusion-Tek[]

The Connect-Tek had embedded itself on Mortum's skull, effectively becoming his brain and turning him into an undead robot monster. Some time after the incident, Mortum emerges from his grave and begins to turn other humans into zombies like him by absorbing their brain energy. His body is now made out entirely of Connect-Tek technology, allowing Mortum to configure and reconfigure himself into endless transformations.

After his first battle against Team Turbo, Mortum captured Steel and went to the mountains with his army of zombies. Using the powers of the Connect-Tek, he created a temple to operate. Due to Mortum's faulty techno-zombotic form being unable to store the brain energy that he had consumed, he decides to dissect Steel to find a solution for his problem. He finds the alien's T.U.R.B.O. Energy Bank,, which is responsible for storing Max's power. Based on it, Mortum creates his own version, dubbed as "Brain Bank", which would allow him to consume endless amounts of brain energy.

During his final battle against Max Steel and Team Turbo, Mortum is impaled in the abdomen by Max's Connect-Tek sword, causing the Connect-Tek and the Brain Bank to be exposed. Max releases a T.U.R.B.O. energy that destroys the device, freeing the individuals that had been turned into zombies and killing the villain.

Abilities[]

Jim McGrath: "It is a matrix housed within this chamber. When charged with energy, the matrix has the ability to connect pieces of technology together. Configuring and reconfiguring the pieces into new and different forms of technology. The possibilities are endless."

The Connect-Tek was inspired on Steel's alien technology. Inside of its shell, there is a matrix that, when charged with an energy (such as T.U.R.B.O. energy for example), gets the ability of connecting, configuring and reconfiguring pieces to create different technological devices. The Connect-Tek can adapt with the needs of the users, adapting with what they think that they are or what they want. In case of Max's Team Turbo, they obtained new powers and armors based on what they wanted.

After the Connect-Tek fused with Mortum, his original body was destroyed in the process and a new one was created, which is made out of Connect-Tek technology. As such, Mortum cannot be destroyed, and if he is, he can simply reconfigure himself and return due to the device's nature of pulling itself together in case it is destroyed.

Additionally, according to Jim McGrath, the Connect-Tek is a very useful tool in the right hands, but in the wrong hands, it can turn into a complete disaster.

Trivia[]

  • Connect-Tek's name comes from the subline with the same name. The action figures from this line feature small hex ports on them that can hold accessories from other toys to create new transformations and modes.
  • The Connect-Tek's design is very similar to the Fuser from Hot Wheels Battle Force 5.
